Why Hello There Nutrisystem Week Two…

Why hello there week two of Nutrisystem, I’m so happy to see you!  I’m not going to lie guys, Turbo week was a little rough.  One of the hardest parts about Turbo week for me is, no extras.  No extras means no coffee creamer and for someone like myself, drinking coffee black is just torture so no coffee creamer means no coffee.  Until I figured out a great little trick that is!

 

 

Those Chocolate Turbo Shakes may just look like any old regular shake to you guys, but to me, that was my saving grace throughout my Turbo week.  The Turbo shakes are incredibly delicious, and offered a creative way for me to get my caffeine (or some of it) in without ruining my progress.  For those who don’t know, coffee is incredibly low calorie, depending on how much grounds you use, typically 2 calories per 8 ounces.  Rather than mix my shake with water, I opted to use some chilled coffee to create not only a nutritious, but delicious and caffeinated treat!

 

I was a little nervous to step on the scale and see how my progress for the week was.  Considering that I don’t have a large volume of weight to lose, I honestly didn’t expect my Turbo week to result in a large loss.  I figured if I had a 2 pound loss during the week I would’ve been happy.  To my surprise, my weekly weigh in showed a loss of 4 pounds for Turbo week which was a little shocking, but hey…I’ll take it!  Week 2 is here and I am so ready to get my body moving and enjoying the Nutrisystem life!

DIY Candy Necklaces For Valentines Day

Looking for a fun way to mix it up this Valentines Day?  Trade in those boring old paper cards your kids exchange every year and step it up a notch.  These easy to make DIY candy necklaces will be the highlight of your little one’s Valentine exchange this year, and thanks to Oriental Trading, you can get everything you need all in one convenient spot!  With a variety of candy and a couple extra materials, you can recreate these super cute candy necklaces in no time at all.

 

 

If you’re looking to recreate these candy necklaces (whether it’s for Valentines Day or any other occasion) here’s a list of the supplies you’ll need (which can all be found at Oriental Trading):

 

 

The first thing you’ll need to do, is determine the length that you should cut each section of tulle in to.  The width of the roll is 6 inches, which is plenty wide enough to accommodate what you need, so all you’ll need to worry about is the length.  These necklaces will be for my daughter’s kindergarten class, so 28″ was a good measurement.  It will allow the necklaces to go on over the kiddos heads easily so there’s no frustration or broken necklaces.

Roll your tulle section into a tube, and measure out exact center.  Since my tulle length is 28″, my exact center will be 14″.  Tie a section of the heart curling ribbon at your exact center and you’re ready to move on to the next step.

 

 

Now that you’ve marked your exact center, you’re ready to attach the heart pendants that will go on each necklace.  You can use whatever your preferred glue is, I prefer hot glue for its reliability as well as dry time.  In just a few minutes you’re ready to move on to the next step 🙂

 

 

Once the glue for the heart pendants has dried, you’ll be able to start filling your necklaces with goodies!  One by one, add a candy to the necklace and tie off in between each candy with a section of heart curling ribbon.  When you put in your last two pieces of candy (one on each side) you’ll be able to attach both ends together, and secure with another section of ribbon.  You’ll want to add a dot of hot glue on the final ribbon that’s connecting both sides.  This will ensure the necklace stays secure and won’t slip out of place.

 

 

Once your final dot of hot glue is dry, your necklaces are ready to hand out to all the lucky littles in your kiddos class.

Recommitting Myself To Nutrisystem In 2018

If you have followed my blog for the past couple of years (or more) you’ll likely remember the journey I went through in 2016 to find a happier healthier me. Thanks to Nutrisystem, I was able to lose 55 pounds, reach my goal weight, and feel better than ever about myself.
The last half of 2017 was a pretty tough time for me. There were various reasons that my stress levels were sky-high and I have to admit that I did not handle the stress as well as I could have. Then the holidays hit and what else comes with holidays? Sugary, delectable treats. With my stress mounting higher than ever and so many hard to resist treats around, my life-long struggle with food won and here I am facing 2018 thirteen pounds heavier than what my goal weight was, which I struggled so hard to get to. Rather than let my weight spiral out of control I decided I was going to do something about it, and recommit myself to my health and wellness this year.

 

Today marks the start of my new Nutrisystem journey with more clear goals in my sights this time around. In 2016 I was so incredibly focused on that number on the scale. Those little digits on a scale were my defining moments, which led me to lose the weight, yes, but this time around I’m looking to make a complete lifestyle change. While working on losing the 13 lbs gained, I want to improve my stamina, improve my endurance, strengthen my cardiovascular system, and improve my flexibility as well. I am completely recommitting myself to my health and wellness this year and I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way than with Nutrisystem.

 

This first week will be my ‘Turbo week’ which means pretty restricted calories to help kick off the weight loss and get my body geared up and my metabolism revving. Since the first week does have such restricted calories I won’t be able to stat any workouts just yet, but I have a brand new treadmill arriving on Wednesday so that once Turbo Week is over I can kick things into high gear. I’m so pumped for this new year and the new me that will be emerging along with it. Stay tuned folks…the best is yet to come!!

DIY Unicorn Valentine’s Exchange Box

Can you guys believe it?  Valentine’s Day is almost here!  While most people are just packing away their Christmas decorations, you KNOW my six year old daughter already has her mind geared towards Valentine’s Day…I guess she got her preparedness from me, but hey, who doesn’t like to be prepared, right?  Since my little munchkin had her heart set on a unicorn Valentine’s exchange box for her class I just couldn’t let her down, and I figured why not show you all how easy it is to make so your little unicorn-obsessed munchkins can have this super cute box too.

 

 

This super cute unicorn box is actually really easy to pull off. I found all of my supplies at Oriental Trading, so everything was an easy one-stop-shop, I didn’t have to go to multiple places to grab what I needed.  For this project you will need:

 

 

First things first, you’ll want to center where your unicorn horn will be, and cut an opening off to the side that’s large enough for Valentine’s to be put into the box.

 

 

You’ll want to create a good base layer of the tissue paper, which is where the craft glue and foam rollers come in SUPER handy.  I put some of the craft glue in a small dish and covered the roller.  Apply the glue to the box, add a layer of tissue paper, and use another (clean) roller to press the tissue evenly on.  For the remaining 5-6 layers of tissue (however many you need) you’ll simply wrap the tissue around the box and tape into place for a crisp, beautiful white box that’s ready to decorate!

 

 

For the next step, you’ll want to create the unicorn horn so it can dry while you finish the rest of the box.  Using the same craft glue and roller that you just used on the box, cover the foam cone in glue, then simply roll in the silver glitter sand.  (Tip: if you place a toothpick in the bottom of the horn it will help you cover the horn in glue and glitter WITHOUT covering your hand too!)

 

 

While your unicorn horn is drying, you can start working on the rest of the box.  For this box, I used 25 pink and 25 purple ribbons that I simply curled with some scissors.  Attach them in an alternate pattern with whatever glue you prefer (I used hot glue for these so they would dry quickly and not slip out of place).

 

 

Once the unicorn horn you glitterfied is dry, you can attach to the box with whatever glue you prefer, again, for quick-drying purposes I used hot glue.  Just make sure you remove the toothpick (if you inserted one) before you try and attach the horn!

 

 

To create the unicorn ears, I used 2 large white hears and 2 small pink hearts.  Turn the hearts upside down and attach the pink heart to the white heart like you see above.  Fold the heart in half, add a dot of hot glue to keep in place, then cut the bottom flat so they’ll be easy to attach to the box.

 

 

When you’re all done attaching the ears, simply add eye stickers, eyelashes, a couple extra hearts and a cute little smile and you’ve got quite possibly the cutest Valentine’s exchange box you’ll ever see!
