Function Meets Beauty With This Songmics Bamboo Lap Desk

If you’ve followed my blog for even a short amount of time, I’m sure you’ll notice that I have been finding lots of great household items from Songmics that I just can’t live without. From organization to furniture to laundry storage, there’s no area of your home that Songmics can’t help tackle.

This desk had all of the great features I was looking for so I decided to put it to the test.

This lap desk perfectly blends function with design which makes it very aesthetically pleasing. The stopper on the front edge helps keep your laptop securely in place when you have the desk top angled for better viewing. The cut out design not only offers a wonderful visual appeal, but it also helps to keep your laptop from overheating…perfect for a heavy tech user like myself. The built in mouse pad is truly a genius part of the design. No extra equipment to fool with, no mouse pad moving around, just a user friendly experience that everyone who uses this desk will love. The small drawer on the side is perfect for keeping small items secure while you work. I love keeping a pad of sticky notes in there to jot down what I need and get back to work. Keep Your Kids Hydrated This School Year With Contigo Water Bottles

Back To School in Arizona means finding ways to keep my kids hydrated throughout the day. As if the Arizona heat weren’t hard enough to deal with, we live in a very rural area and all three of my children have quite lengthy bus rides to school…my oldest a 2 hour ride to his high school! Extended exposure to these temps mean hot kids, and unfortunately, often dehydrated kids. Last year all of the options I tried didn’t work out well, so this year Contigo and I have partnered up to find some great water bottles that easily fit into backpacks to keep my kids happy, healthy, and refreshed all year long.

My youngest child entered kindergarten this year, and I was on a mission to find durable water bottles that won’t leak or spill, and Contigo had the perfect solution. The AUTOSEAL Trekker is perfect for little ones around my daughter’s age that are too big for sippy cups, but don’t quite have the coordination to avoid spills. This bottle features a one-touch AUTOSEAL lid that automatically seals between sips for mess-free drinking. Plus it’s easy for small hands to hold, so it’s perfect for kids to keep on trekkin’. I was skeptical that this water bottle would keep my son’s water cold all day long, but it absolutely did, and then some! In the morning my son fills up his bottle with ice and water, and by the end of the day he still has ice in his water bottle which was a true shock considering the extreme temps we have throughout the day.

A Super Fun Spin On An Old Classic…The Oregon Trail: Hunt For Food

If you remember playing the game Oregon Trail as a kid on huge, bulky computers with floppy disks, then congratulations…you had the best childhood ever! In the original game, you play as a covered wagon party of pioneers and head out west from Independence, Missouri to the Willamette River and valley in Oregon. You first had to stock up on provisions, and then, while traveling, make decisions such as when to rest, how much food to eat, etc. The Oregon Trail incorporated simulation elements and planning ahead, along with discovery and adventure, as well as mini-game-like activities (hunting and floating down the Dalles River). Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Back To School means TONS of baking here in my home, and there’s nothing better than starting the day off with some fresh, homemade cinnamon rolls. I have fallen in love with a Paula Deen recipe I found, and I thought I’d share it with all of you for the best Back To School breakfast yet.

Ingredients:

Dough:

1/4-ounce package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter or shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Filling:

1/2 cup melted butter, plus more for pan
3/4 cup sugar, plus more for pan
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
3/4 cup raisins, walnuts, or pecans, optional

Glaze:

4 tablespoons butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 to 6 tablespoons hot water

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. In a large bowl mix milk, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add yeast mixture. Mix in remaining flour until dough is easy to handle. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes. Place in well-greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size, usually 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

When doubled in size, punch down dough. Roll out on a floured surface into a 15 by 9-inch rectangle. Spread melted butter all over dough. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over buttered dough. Sprinkle with walnuts, pecans, or raisins if desired. Beginning at the 15-inch side, role up dough and pinch edge together to seal. Cut into 12 to 15 slices.

Coat the bottom of baking pan with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in the pan and let rise until dough is doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake for about 30 minutes or until nicely browned.

Meanwhile, mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add hot water 1 tablespoon at a time until the glaze reaches desired consistency. Spread over slightly cooled rolls.

If you’re looking for a great homemade breakfast, these cinnamon rolls are absolutely going to be your family’s favorite treat. Make them ahead the night before, and let them do their final rise in the fridge. Take the cinnamon rolls out of the fridge in the morning when you turn your oven on to help them reach room temperature before baking. (Taking them out just as you’re setting the oven or even slightly before is important! The center of the rolls will stay cold and not cook properly if you don’t let them come to room temperature or close to it.)

With so many things going on in our day-to-day lives, there are a lot of things that should be considered more often that go unnoticed. How often do you think about your spare tire?
